Senior Citizens Holiday Dinner

Saturday, December 3, 2011 - 5:30

The 6th Annual Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner will be held at the Jena Elementary School Cafeteria. Open to all residents of Jena and the surrounding areas who are 60 years of age and over.

We will begin taking reservations to attend the dinner November 1, 2011. Please call the town hall to add your name to the reservation list.

Approximately 200 seniors are served each year during this much appreciated community service event. To accomplish this we need the help of the local community. Some of the items needed are monetary donations, door prizes and volunteers to help serve the seniors. If you would like to participate in this event please contact Cory Floyd or Nina Wagoner at 318-992-2148. If you choose to make a monetary donation please make checks payable to "Senior Citizens Dinner" and mail to Town of Jena, P.O. Box 26, Jena, LA 71342. A list of those making donations to this worthy cause will be displayed at the dinner and published in the Jena Times following the events.

Jena Christmas Parade

December 9, 2011 - 6 P.M.

The Jena Merchants Association will be hosting the 2011 Annual Jena Christmas Parade!!!

The theme for this year’s parade is “Christmas Through the Eyes of a Child”. What are some of your favorite childhood memories of Christmas? What kind of tree did you have? Did you go out and cut it or was your tree store-bought; was your tree green or was it silver! Did you use popcorn and cranberries for decorations? What about that rotating color wheel that changed the color of the tree!

The JMA invites everyone to share a childhood Christmas memory by participating in this year’s parade. This event can be a great opportunity for the older generation to share memories of their childhood Christmases! Make it a family affair!

All churches, civic organizations, businesses, schools - don’t miss this opportunity to share in a great community tradition!

The Christmas Parade Packet may be picked up at Southern Heritage Bank in Jena as well as at LaSalle Printing Company.
