Promoting locally grown, produced, and made items in an accessible, convenient place in Jena. We aim to educate the public on the uses and benefits of locally produced products, while encouraging a healthy lifestyle. The Patriotic Celebration will be held at the Amphitheater beginning at 7 p.m. located at the Jena Town Park. Bring a lawn chair for comfort, sing along if you'd like and enjoy a salute to our country, especially our veterans. Jena National Night Out Held in August National Night Out, a year-long community building campaign, is designed to: (1) Heighten crime prevention awareness. (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs. (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Entrants are asked to begin showing their displays on October 1st and to continue through October 31st. Festivities include entertainment, food, arts and crafts. The Howdy Neighbor Day festival is fun for all ages and a very family oriented affair. For more information contact: Blake Phillips (318) 312-1200 Downtown Block Party for Jena merchants Held each year, Thursday before Thanksgiving from 5 to 8 p.m. A large number of businesses downtown and elsewhere in town usually stays open late for the party, offering early Christmas bargains. Each participating merchant has t-shirts to sell for $10.00 each. Each vendor will honor a 10% discount to any customer wearing the t-shirt during the block party. Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner Friday, December 7, 2018 - 6:00 p.m. The Annual Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner will be held at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. Open to all residents of Jena and the surrounding areas who are 60 years of age and over. We will begin taking reservations to attend the dinner November 1, 2018. Please call the town hall to add your name to the reservation list. Approximately 200 seniors are served each year during this much appreciated community service event. To accomplish this we need the help of the local community. Some of the items needed are monetary donations, door prizes and volunteers to help serve the seniors. If you would like to participate in this event please contact Cory Floyd or Valarie Norris at 318-992-2148. If you choose to make a monetary donation please make checks payable to "Senior Citizens Dinner" and mail to Town of Jena, P.O. Box 26, Jena, LA 71342.
